The Second Epistle of St. Paul the Apostle to Timothy
Chapter 3, Verses 1-5
"But know this, that in the last days dangerous times will come. Men will be lovers of self, covetous, haughty, proud, blasphemous, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, criminal, heartless, faithless, slanderers, incontinent, merciless, unkind, treacherous, stubborn, puffed up with pride, loving pleasure more than God, having a semblance indeed of piety, but disowning its power. Avoid these."

From the Collect of the Mass of September 17th, the Stigmata of Our Holy Father Saint Francis:
"O Lord Jesus Christ, when the world was growing cold, in order that our hearts might burn anew with the fire of Your love, You renewed in the flesh of the most blessed Francis, our Father, the sacred marks of Your Passion; mercifully grant that, by his merits and prayers, we may ever carry our cross, and bring forth fruits worthy of penance. You who are God, living and reigning for ever and ever. Amen"
